Description
This chapter covers design and construction of household refrigerators and freezers. Providing optimized conditions for preserving stored food is the primary function of a refrigerator or freezer. Typically, this is done by storing food at reduced temperature. Ice making is an essential secondary function in some markets. A related product, the wine chiller, provides optimum temperatures for storing wine. Wine chillers are often manufactured by the same companies using the same technologies as refrigerators and freezers. Dual-use products combining a wine storage compartment with fresh-food and/or freezer compartments have also been manufactured.
