OT-88-18-3 — Energy Optimization in a Hospital by Means of DDC

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1988

Description

This paper describes how a sophisticated energy concept in an Austrian district hospital was automated.

The plant consists of a high-temperature circuit and a low-temperature circuit. The high-temperature circuit obtains its heat from two boilers (oil-fired), one cogeneration plant, and one steam/water heat exchanger. The low-temperature circuit is equipped with three refrigeration machines (with four reciprocating compressors each). The recovered heat is used for floor heating and domestic hot water.

The control programs for the major components are discussed. Storage management takes into consideration a forecast for outside temperature and domestic hot water consumption. The decision to run the cogeneration plant or not depends on a cost calculation. First results of operation are presented.
