States that packaged rooftop unit (RTU) air conditioners can cause objectionable noise and vibration in acoustically-sensitive spaces. Complaints are caused by direct noise transmission through the roof, structure- borne vibrations, duct-borne fan noise, rumble and duct break-out. Maintains that proper location of the RTU is the most cost-effective design technique for avoiding acoustical problems. Focuses on RTU location with respect to structural stiffness and architectural space planning. Deals with equipment characteristics and potential acoustical problems.
