Thermal storage systems are becoming widely accepted techniques for electrical utility load management. This paper discusses the principles of ice harvesting equipment and its application to a 240,000 square foot merchandise distribution center located in Columbia, South Carolina. The reduction in electrical demand and economic benefits are demonstrated.
