BO-75-05-3 — Droplet and Drop Size and Distribution Estimation

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1975

Category:

Description

An obvious need exists in mist extractor separator application to determine the size of liquid
droplets and drops in the liquid-gas system coming into the separator. There is only a limited
amount of such information available due to the extreme difficulty of accurate measurements of
liquid droplets and drops under service conditions.

The purpose of this paper is to permit a first approximation estimate of droplet and drop
size and distri.bution for possible service situations. This estimate seems nearly impossible
considering the variable nature of turbulent flow and statistical mechanics; however, it is
offered in the hope that some degree of attempted prediction is better than none. This estimation
was based on a compilation of some theoretical approaches and empirical relations following
a limited literature search.
