Description

This paper concentrates on methods and procedures currently used in building regulations to account for energy resource consumption and the consequences and design discussions/approvals resulting from use of these methods. Specifically addressed are those procedures contained in federal/state regulations and codes addressing energy conservation. This paper outlines the technical requirements and equations in the regulations, presents examples of each used on real buildings, and discusses their impact on the design/construction of the building.

Included in this paper are discussions of: (1) 10 Code of Federal Regulations Part 455, “Grant Programs for Schools and Hospitals and Buildings Owned by Units of Loral Government and Public Care Institutions”; (2) California Administrative Code, Title 24, Part 2, “Energy Conservation Standards for New Nonresidential Buildings”; (3) State of Florida Model Energy Efficiency Code for Building Construction; and (4) Chartered Institute of Building Sciences (London) energy code.
