Description

This paper describes a methodology developed for applying thermoeconomics to a constant air volume (CAV) air-conditioning system. This study includes optimization procedures for design variables and comparisons between many alternatives under different economic conditions. The first analysis allows the designer to minimize costs allocated to plant repayment and maintenance, as well as energy consumption by the system. The second one is related to the search of the optimum air-conditioning plant design, considering present and future conditions, i.e., energy price variation. In both cases, the methodology presented focuses on optimizing current design procedures for air-conditioning systems.
