Description
Sorbent materials are used by industry to lower the moisture content of the air. Fig. 1 represents psychrometrically the advantages of three methods of dehumidification ordinarily used in comfort and industrial air conditioning. Line A-B represents the psychrometric change in air passing through a refrigeration dehumidification coil. Line A-C represents the psychrometric change in air passing through a solid adsorbent such as silica gel or activated alumina. Line A-D represents the method of dehumidification with a liquid adsorbent dehumidifier such as an aqueous solution of lithium chloride or triethelene glycol without a cooling coil. Line A-E, however, has a controlled solution temperature, which is necessary to obtain the outlet air at the desired temperature and moisture level.
