Description
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been used for a variety of fire protection applications, and review of these CFD analyses is often desired. The review approach described in this paper consists of (1) checking the relevant factors, (2) comparing with experimental fire data, and (3) performing independent calculations. Checking relevant factors can be thought of as a formalized approach to searching for serious mistakes. In addition to this approach, the paper describes types of error, CFD models, governing equations of fluid flow, heat transfer, grid and cell size, fire modeling, and turbulence modeling. Information is included about hazard analysis because CFD analyses often are part of a hazard analysis.
