3825 (RP-661) — Stack Effect in Tall Buildings

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1994

Category:

Description

Describes the problems caused by stack effect in tall buildings during cold weather. Reports field measurements and simulation results for a 44-storey commercial office tower in Montreal to determine the magnitude of specific problems related to stack effect and to test the effect of modifications to the HVAC system designed to reduce these problems. Finds that the key parameters for minimising the effects of stack effect are the overall tightness of the envelope and the value of the thermal draught coefficient. Provides structural and HVAC system design recommendations to overcome the problem of stack effect.
