3223 — Reducing Energy Costs in Vapor-Compression Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Using Liquid Recycle—Part III: Comparison to Other Energy-Saving Cycles

Description

It was shown in Part II of this three-part series that the recycle of liquid ammonia to the compressor reduces energy consumption because the vapors are cooled during the compression. This approach is compared with other approaches in the literature where the throttling of the condenser liquid occurs in steps. It compares very favorably because it achieves comparable results with much less equipment. When liquid recycle to the compressor is combined with multi-step throttling, the energy efficiency is improved even more.
