Description

Ternary nitrate mixtures represent a new class of high-temperature working fluids for chemical heat pumps. Water is the refrigerant and the solute is composed of 53 wt % LiNO3, 28 wt % KNO3, and 19 wt % NaNO3. The fluid mixture is a competitor to existing chemical heat pump fluids and operates up to 260°C (500 F) without causing corrosion problems. In this paper, polynomial expressions using least square fit techniques are developed that correlate experimental vapor-liquid-equilibrium (VLE) and specific enthalpy-concentration data for the aqueous nitrate mixture. These equations are necessary for computer simulation of heat pump cycles.
