PH-97-12-2 — Theoretical Evaluation of the Optimal Performance of a Thermoacoustic Refrigerator

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1997

Category:

Description

Reports that theoretical models were integrated with a design optimisation tool to allow estimates of the maximum coefficient of performance for thermoacoustic cooling systems. The system model was validated using experimental results for a well-documented prototype. The optimisation tool was then applied to the prototype to demonstrate the benefits of systematic optimisation. Predicts a twofold increase in performance through the variation of component dimensions alone, with a threefold improvement when working fluid parameters are also considered. Results for similar devices representative of a domestic refrigerator indicate comparable coefficients of performance to existing vapour compression equipment. In addition to the choice of working fluid, finds the heat exchanger configuration affects performance critically.
