Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 2002

Category:

Description

In order to emphasize economical and environmental benefits of using low-enthalpy energy resources in district energy systems, new rating parameter were developed with the main emphasis on exergy. These parameter evaluated design alternatives of the district energy module for Adapazari in Turkey. Adapazari is under reconstruction after the 1999 earthquake, and the first phase of the system will have a capacity of 10,000 homes. The system utilizes waste heat at 37 °C from a 780 MW e combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power plant and shall be assisted by ground-source heat pumps. An optimization study was carried out using the new rating parameters, indicating that the overall conversion efficiency of the power plant shall improve from 57% to 66%.
