Description

This paper addresses the renovation of the roof and ventilation systems of an old group of buildings in an automotive plant to increase energy efficiency and improve environmental conditions by the addition of air-conditioning.

Developing production processes and equipment indicated the need for increased clear height in some areas of these plants. General deterioration of the old roof structures pointed up the desirability of a program of replacement of the gypsum tile roof and insulation.

Important attributes of the problem are summarized below:

  1. Create increased clearance to bottom chord of trusses in selected areas.
  2. Repair or replace existing roof construction.
  3. Repair or replace monitor sash to improve energy efficiency in winter.
  4. Enhance environmental conditions.
  5. Do not interfere with daily production while implementing the above modificaions.
