LA-80-06-3 — Geothermal Space Heating in Susanville

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1980

Category:

Description

The City of Susanville, California has initiated the development of a geothermal resource to provide space heating for public buildings. Test wells are currently being drilled to map the size of the resource. The distribution system, including production well, piping and storage tank will be constructed in 1980. Initial utilization of the hot water flow of 2000 gpm (7.6 Is) at 165°F (75°C) will provide space heating for 17 public buildings and displace 275,000 gal. (1,042,000 Is) of heating oil per year. A follow-on extension of the system, possibly with peaking from a wood waste-fired hot water boiler, could include heating of commercial city buildings plus a proposed Park of Commerce consisting of greenhouse and hog production facilities.
