Description

This paper describes use of Interzone Temperature Profile Estimation (ITPE), an analytical calculation procedure for predicting time-varying heat transfer to the ground from three commonu nderground structures: slabs, basements, and earth-sheltered buildings. The procedure accepts continuously variable values of geometric dimensions, insulation levels, and soil thermal characteristics and considers the presence of a finite water table level. The method is based on two-dimensional analytical solutions to the heat conduction equation, so it does not require any correlation coefficients. An example is given to facilitate implementation of the method on microcomputers.
