3906 (RP-680) — Fire/Smoke Damper Study to Determine Dynamic Closure Capability and Leakage Performance

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1995

Description

Describes a laboratory study to evaluate the capability of curtain fire dampers and multiblade fire/smoke dampers to close at air velocities and closure pressures at the ambient and elevated temperatures that may occur in smoke management systems. All dampers were UL 555 dynamically rated for closure. Most of the curtain fire dampers did not close properly at their labelled dynamic UL rating and, at elevated temperatures, the closure failure rate increased significantly. Most of the multiblade fire/smoke dampers closed at their labelled dynamic UL rating at 70degF as well as at temperatures up to 450degF. Gives the result of tests of the leakage of multiblade fire/smoke dampers at elevated temperatures after dynamic closure.
