Description

Energy management can be addressed on a local, regional, national, or global basis. Although the goal of each of these areas may differ slightly, the true driving force behind energy management and energy conservation is “cost reduction.” If it doesn’t save money, most people will not be able to justify installing an energy conservation modification. It should be advantageous to any hospital larger tha n 200-300 beds to investigate the installation of a waste-toheat incineration system, from a cost reduction perspective and, in addition, from a peace-of-mind perspective. The peace of mind comes from the fact that trash is incinerated on-site, thereby greatly reducing the risk of contaminating the landfills. The global benefit comes from transferring a waste product into useful energy, without adversely impacting any environmental issue, thereby reducing the nation’s dependence on the local or imported supply of fossil fuel. The results of this action include transferring one’s local energy management activity into one with global benefit.

In this paper, the author will address some excellent benefits of clean air incineration of the infectious and noninfectious material discarded from hospitals and medical centers throughout the nation and the world.
