Currently, the Mechanical Engineering Department at an Ohio university offers three undergraduate courses in the HVAC area. Two graduate courses are also offered in alternate years. The undergraduate courses are senior technical electives. They include Environmental Control, four quarter hours; Heating and Air Conditioning, four quarter hours; and Refrigeration, three quarter hours.

Laboratory exercises and design projects are integrated into the courses. The software package ASEAM-2 has been used as a design tool for the past two years. The graduate courses include an advanced systems course and an advanced refrigeration course. They both involve individual student design projects tailored to each student’s interest.
