Description
Growth in energy supply has not kept pace with the dramatic increase in energy consumption in developing countries, resulting in sharp increase in cost of energy. Well planned regulations can significantly reduce energy demand in buildings with relatively quick financial returns, while generating new business opportunities. Regulation developed through analysis of local climate conditions and context can optimize the potential savings, with a relatively small impact on construction cost. International Finance Corporation (IFC) is currently working on developing a standard methodology and template for green building code development and implementation in many developing countries in Asia and Latin America along with local governments and its technical collaborators including WSP.
